Cooper, LLC announced today that Carlos S. Montoya, most recently Senior Vice President and Deputy General Counsel for the Philadelphia 76ers and New Jersey Devils organization, has joined the firm.  Carlos brings extensive experience advising clients of all sizes, from large public companies to start-up and early stage companies, on a broad range of issues.

“Perhaps even more important than his experience, Carlos possesses the integrity,  character and client-first mentality that this firm was built on,” said Ryan J. Cooper, managing partner of Cooper, LLC. “I’ve known Carlos for more than 12 years, since we were both federal law clerks, and I’ve followed his career with interest ever since.  Carlos is a tremendous lawyer, strategic thinker and counselor, and I’m thrilled that he chose to bring his practice to Cooper, LLC.”

Carlos’s breadth of experience, both as in-house counsel to a leading Fortune 200 company and sports and entertainment properties, and at top AmLaw 100 law firms, enhances Cooper, LLC’s proven ability to provide top quality, high value services to its clients.

“I am excited to return to private practice at Cooper, LLC,” said Montoya.  “I have been collaborating with Cooper, LLC for the past several months, and have been impressed by the way Ryan manages the firm, the quality of his clients, and the sophistication of his work.  After spending years as in-house counsel, I’ve worked through the broad array of complex legal issues that companies face on a daily basis, and look forward to leveraging that experience to advise Cooper, LLC clients.  It is a privilege to be able to work with a close friend, and to provide high-value legal services in a client-driven environment at Cooper, LLC.”

Carlos will focus on serving as outside general counsel to emerging and established companies, in addition to advising on strategic transactions and disputes.  His clients go to him for advice on general corporate, commercial contracts, compliance, employment, dispute resolution, and other matters to help grow their business and achieve their goals.

Carlos graduated from the University of Pennsylvania Law School and the University of Virginia.
